I am so excited for Melissa Hammann.. Evansville Education Association endores her for school board.Posted in Uncategorized with tags Evansville School Board, Melissa Hammann, Wi on March 6, 2014 by chasinthenews
There is no reason for this law at all. NONE.. It was just created and supported by a bunch of ignorant bigots.
AS it is a business can refuse to serve anyone they please. They do not need a law that gives them permission to discriminate.
It’s funny to see some of those law makers who first supported this turn tail and run.. They realize now this proposed law is just a very bad idea.
Already seeing teacher resignations coming in for the end of the year.
With certain items more than likely going to referendum in the next year for the Evansville school district, it was interesting to hear that the Stoughton school district already has a referendum on the ballot for April 1st. Stoughton just had a referendum in 2010. WHY is Stoughton having another referendum? Because they seem to think they can not run , with out more money. In the 4 years since the last Stoughton school district referendum they have:
- Eliminated another 11 positions
- Refinanced debt
- Held down health insurance premiums
- Continued energy efficiency improvements
Before they held the referendum in 2010 they : *** from their web page...http://www.stoughton.k12.wi.us/referendum.cfm
Prior to 2010 referendum, we reduced expenses by $3.5 million through steps such as:
- Eliminated 68 positions
- Closed Yahara Elementary School
- Instituted energy efficiency improvements
THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE SAID THEY HAVE DONE WITH THE MONEY FROM THE 2010 REFERENDUM.
What has the district done with the money from the 2010 referenda?
The community in 2010 supported both an operational and a maintenance referendum. The maintenance referendum enabled us to address critical repair needs, and we were able to stretch those dollars even further by acting as our own project manager instead of hiring a firm to do that work for us.
The operational referendum allowed us to withstand historic cuts in state funding and yet improve the quality of education we provide. Some of the highlights include:
- Built 97% graduation rate — one of the best in the county
- Boosted ACT to their highest in almost two decades
- Expanded college credit options
- Strengthened workforce development programs
- Partnered with MIT and local foundations and businesses to build state-of-the-art digital fabrication laboratory
- Gained national recognition for our innovative inclusive teaching approach
SAD THAT EVANSVILLE IS UNLIKELY TO DO ANY OF THESE THINGS WITH THE REFERENDUM MONEY. I will also add that Stoughton has a excellent Science program at their high school.
They ~ Stoughton ~ are ‘ threatening to cut 33 staff positions and programs such as reading intervention/early reading programs if this referendum does not pass.
The question many are asking is , are they going to be back in another 4 years asking for more money? Maybe they should be making these staff cuts. Clearly if they are threatening to make staff cuts they have thought about what they would do with out these staff members.
OR is it like in Evansville when Evansville started laying off teachers in the last few years they found as they looked at class numbers , they were a tad over staffed.
That the number of students in some classes did not support having that class anymore. That some teachers were being paid FULL TIME wages when really they only ” Worked” part-time, it terms of how many classes they actually had.
Some of this ‘ over staffing’ was because of declining enrollment , some was because no one had really paid attention to the class numbers in a long time.
SO is Evansville going to have to go to referendum in another few years because they have not learned how to budget or make cuts on the money they have. WITH declining enrollment there is no good excuse for this.
I WAS glad to see the numbers on the survey for the question would you support “
That was a nice impressive turn out of survey’s filled out.
I absolutely love that
CONGRATS TO ALL WHO TOOK THE TIME TO FILL OUT THE SURVEY.
**** This sounds like so much fun!! They always put on a awe some show!!
Just announced! Evansville High will be the first high school in the nation to produce The Addams Family! May 1-4, 2014. When Wednesday falls in love with a “normal” boy and invites him and his parents over for dinner, things change for the Addams family and no one seems to know quite what to do about it.
The weird and wonderful family comes to devilishly delightful life in THE ADDAMS FAMILY. This magnificently macabre new musical comedy is created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk Award winner Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys), and Olivier Award-winning original directors and designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter) with direction by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks.
THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
Come meet the family. We’ll leave the lights off for you.

When I picked my son up from basketball practice the other night from Madison West. I noticed a few buses. I counted 8 buses. I asked my son ..
” Why are these buses here at this time of night? “ It was a little after 7 o’ clock. He said ‘ oh that’s the mathletes.” After talking with him a bit longer I found out there was a math competition going on at West that night and its a common thing for them to have competitions. I asked him if they the students from the math program that take part in this like being called ” mathletes.”
He said no one he knows minds it in fact the kids he knows on the math team like it. It was clear from talking with my son that the mathletes get just as much if not more respect than any ‘ athlete.’ . Because its true that with math not everyone can do it, either you are good at it or you are not.
Mathletes.. pretty darn neat!!!
I really like the fact that Madison West has more academic clubs than athletic programs.
Madison West has had some athletes go on to play in the N.B.A. and the N.F.L. but they have had many more kids excel and reach ‘ celebrity’ status because of their academic accomplishments than the athletic accomplishments.
Academics must come first.
Applaud those schools who put academics first.
( hint Evansville does not put academics first.)
What is the deal with Florida letting all these people, white people off for killing young black men. Florida is sending a clear message want to kill a black man? go to Florida you will get a way with it.
Some have said this prosecutor over reached. She had charged him with murder one. To me murder one says premeditation . I do not think he, Michael Dunn, went to that gas station intending to kill anyone. They should have charged him with the lesser murder charge that would have been more fitting.
Regardless he is going to prison on the other charges. The prosecutor has already said she will re-try him.
I understand rape is about anger and control. But I still do not understand how he could have done this. Sadly I am sure they are correct there is a DNA connection and there is proof of some sort of drug in these women’s systems. But how does one go from a stand out , pro foot ball player to an accused serial rapist?
It’s easy to want to say these women are just after his money. But DNA is DNA.
He seemed to have it all.. A former NFL player, Pro bowl 5x. former Packer, good-looking, and money, money, money….. HE blew it.
I do not understand why people think they need to tell anyone. It’s your business and no one else.
I look forward to the day when this will be a non-story.
I hope he does really well in the draft!!
Best of luck to him..
One of the questions of the survey that the Evansville School District sent out was would you support spending xxxxx amount of dollars for security measures. This was separate from the school police liaison . Keep in mind they only need the police liaison because the school administrators can not behave themselves. So these are two separate issues. NO need for a police liaison but they do need to improve and update school security measures. I do not know why it is so damn hard for people to check in at the office when going into the school. But they also need other safety updates, like locks on all classrooms, make people buzz to get into the building.. Nothing fancy , just simple basic things.
This judge needs to be removed from the bench. ” Affluenza” then prosecute his parents since according to him that is where the blame belongs.
If this boxing match actually comes to be I honestly hope that georgie boy gets beat to a pulp.
He should truly hope no one brings a gun.
I hope very few people pay to watch this.
I hope he has to crawl away bloodied, wounded , and ashamed.
I would say I hope he is never heard from again after this match. That would make it sound like I hope he dies.
No I do not wish that but I do hope he has to live the rest of his pitiful life in hiding.
I think all our administrators should do the same until they get things running properly.
I was the rare one among family and friends. Most of my family and friends cheered for the Broncos. I cheered , and cheered loud for Russell Wilson and the Sea Hawks.
I have a lot of respect for both Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson.. But I was so tired of hearing about the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos went into that game believing all the hype and they fell apart. They never recovered after that bad snap.
It’s not that the Broncos just played a bad game, they played a bad game because of Seattle. Seattle caused the interceptions and the fumbles.
The Sea Hawks played with more intensity and energy. They came to play.
Great job by the Sea Hawks!!! Congratulations to Russell Wilson!!!
Did you get your survey from the E.C.S.D.? Why a referendum when you have a MILLION plus in the fund balance.Posted in Uncategorized with tags 4k, Brian Cashore, evansville school dstrict, fund balance., Jerry Roth, Robert Flaherty, Scott Everson, survey, Wi on February 3, 2014 by chasinthenews
Oh my goodness, where to start.
I got a chance to read this survey over the weekend.
It’s funny how they do not even put an estimate in for the costs of 4k. They did for other things they want. But not for 4k.
Every thing that I read on that survey, with the exception of the junior high is a want, not a need.
Yes the curriculum is a need as are the updates to computers and software. But these things need to be paid for out of the budget.
The last time I knew they have a MILLION plus in the fund balance. They could pay for 4k out of the fund balance. They could upgrade the curriculum and computers and software through the fund balance. They have the money.
More pay for teacher’s and to attract good teachers? Well maybe you could keep and attract more teachers if administration treated them better.
I know for a fact the moral at the junior high and high school, the moral has been awful for a long time. It’s not all about money, it’s about how they are treated.
I also think Evansville does need to implement merit pay, pay the teachers who really deserve it more and let the others work for it. But regardless it needs to come out of the budget.
The majority of the questions on this survey shows they have serious budgeting issues.
Why go to referendum and raise taxes when you have the money. The Evansville school district is the highest taxed district in the county and they want to add more?
Throwing money at this district is not going to help it. The things they need to fix are internal things and only then will real change happen.
The link below gives more information on this survey as well.
It seems like Evansville in the last few years had more than its share of heart ache.
Evansville lost Clayton Smith this last week. He had many friends in Evansville.
Last night Liz Proctor was killed in a car accident. She leaves behind a very young baby and many friends and family .
Both of them so very young.
What I was sad to see was a certain person from the Evansville area whose own brother died several years ago, bashing this young man and saying how stupid he was. The year was 2007.
Really? Like what your brother did was not stupid? I have defended this person and family for years. But to see her make some of the comments she did was just unacceptable.
I guess she forgot as a family member of some one who has died tragically , what that feels like to have people make comments about your loved one.
Our thought and prays are with both these families at this difficult time.
“Parents, please note, the Open Enrollment application period is February 3 – April 30, 2014
The application period closes at 4:00 p.m. on April 30, 2014. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.
The Public School Open Enrollment application period for the 2014-15 school year is from February 3 to April 30, 2014. Parents must submit applications to the non-resident school district. All districts are encouraging parents to apply on-line at http://sms.dpi.wi.gov/sms_psctoc Parents do not need to reapply each year. Parents do not need to reapply when going into Middle or High School.
All applications, questions, and inquiries should be directed to Linda Gard, at GardL@Evansville.k12.wi.us or call 608-882-3385.
“Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.”
Really no late applications will be accepted for any reason? Really? You would think from the way this is written that the E.S.D. has control over the law.
It would not be the first time the E.S.D. has broken the law. It is very much a district of ‘ do as I say , not as I do.”
The fact is families can open enroll at any time through the school year , for any reason. So the comment that late application will not be accepted is total crap.
Families are no longer stuck in the Evansville School District. It is a very dysfunctional district and lacks any real curriculum , and the fail to get kids ready for college.
( Some kids are just naturally gifted and have been college ready because of their own discipline, not because of any thing they might catch at the high school.Oh hell some of them are smarter than the teachers.)
I was looking over reports on the school website, 100+ kids open enrolled out this last year. That does not include the families who home school which is over 50+ families in the district who home school. That does not also include the families who intentionally moved so their kids could go to a better school and get a decent education. The numbers grow every year and will continue to grow until real changes are made.
And sorry folks real change is not 4k. Only 9% of the people surveyed left Evansville because of no 4k. That is a very small amount.
How ever 36% of those surveyed left because of lack of curriculum/challenging curriculum at the higher grades.
Take advantage of Open enrollment, bigger schools offer so much more. We did not realize how bad the Evansville school district was until we moved and saw how real schools run and what they offer.
So Rep. Rimm today says he ‘ did not have time’ for the reporter questions about the investigation surrounding him and his campaign.
Hmmmm?? He did not have time to answer legitimate questions yet he had time to walk away from this reporter, then come back and threaten him.
He had time to threaten him, but not answer a legitimate question? Rep. Rimm is a bully and I hope he is ousted in the next election.
Oklahoma City School Board concerned over third-grade reading requirement | Oklahoma City – OKC – KOCO.comPosted in Uncategorized with tags Evansville school district, literacy, Wi on January 29, 2014 by chasinthenews
The question is in years past when 3rd graders were not reading at grade level. What did they do? Do they promote them regardless of their ability to read?
Evansville has this same program. Promoting kids that can not read or do math at grade level.
What services do schools offer to discuss the issue of children not reading at grade level? What about math?
Math and reading are core subjects and no child should be passed along who can not read or do math at grade level. It only gets harder with each year.
Lets see.. what should we do with this guy??
Wisconsin and states across the nation have to get harsher animal cruelty laws.
It does not matter what the government comes up with. Teachers are never going to like it. They got away for years without being held accountable and they do not like it one bit, having to show they are actually earning their pay checks.
It sounds like they want more time to get ready for Common Core. How much more time? They also wanted more time for N.C.L.B. , and they never could get that right either. Time did not help them.
Absolutely Awe some!!
Good grief Walker needs to get a life.
Some of these things are already built into the federal guidelines. Except in the federal guidelines a school would have to close, and re-open after being taken over by the state.
I do not think the federal guide liens say any thing about charter schools.
I hope if this referendum does come to be that they divide it up. It would be a mistake to lump every thing together in one large sum of money and think Evansville residents are going to fall for it.
Divide it up into separate questions.
I support the following vote yes to _____________ amount for updating computers technology, teacher pay&benefits, purchasing curriculum , and 4k and renovating the junior high.
I support and vote yes in spending ______________ for 4k.
I support spending _________________for building/renovating the junior high and I also support 4k.
and so on…..
As they found out with the high school it was easier to get people to vote yes when options were given.
This way when/if it fails they can also see exactly where the numbers are at for and against different items.
IF this goes to referendum I really do not see this passing , at the very least not at a first time around.
Everyone should be getting this in their mail box this week. If you do not please call the school district or contact Kelly Mosher at 608-882-3387 or email@example.com.
So they are thinking about going to a referendum? I think Jerry Roth has had this on his mind since day one of him taking the position of school superintendent.
The district does have many WANTS. There is such a difference between wants and needs.
Really more salary for employees and benefits? Really? What happened to Act 10? No way. Employee salary and benefits need to come from the regular budget . You can not expect Evansville tax payers to thinks its o.k. to pay for daily/monthly/ yearly expenses from a referendum. They need to budget better.
Money for upgrading curriculum and technology. Yes it would be nice to see the district move into this decade. The computers and software are really old.
Renovate or Replace the junior high? Yes the district needs a new junior high. There is so much wrong with the current building its disturbing.
A police liaison? Just make administration behave and you would not need a police liaison. It’s a black eye on the district that they would even consider this as the high school and junior high already think the police dept is at their personal employees. Just make administration behave, that is where the trouble starts.
4k? It is really is not fair to carry out 4k when there are so many needs in the district, which that point has been expressed by many already. 4k is a want, not a need as there are other options parents can seek out. A good quality daycare, with 4k curriculum . Because that is all 4k is , is daycare with a good curriculum. 4k is a want.
The district needs to take care of the students it already has, which it is not doing.
My aunt , uncle and cousins live in Evansville as well and asked me what I thought. I told my uncle that I thought 4k and a new junior high were things people do need to consider. The rest of these wants need to come out of the budget. But if they are going to lump them all into one referendum I would vote no.
The only pressing issue I see from the questions I am aware of is the need for a new junior high. Even with that if the district will continue to have declining enrollment is it better to just renovate the current building and hold off on building?
The district lost 100+ students this year to open enrollment. They need to fix some thing internally before more money gets thrown at them.
The fact they want to include some of these items in the referendum shows everyone they have a problem budgeting.
They really need to sit down and make a plan and stick with it. So far all they have shown is they have a list of wants, not needs.
Oh my goodness Bristol Palin of all people judging how other people parent. Bristol Palin is a joke.
Kapernick for such a young man, sure is full of him self. I think he got what he deserved yesterday.
Two very classy, hard-working QB’S will be in the Super Bowl.
It will be fun to see two former Badgers playing for the Lombardi trophy!!!
What ever will the Middleton School District do? They lost, and were slapped in the face by the State Court.
I wonder if this teacher Andrew Harris really plans on returning to the M.C.P.S.D. ? He will not be welcome by administration.
They will more than likely let him know he is not welcome in different ways.
He will get all that back pay!! That will be a nice pay-day for him.
I would hope he has looked for or maybe already working in a different job.
I would also hope there is some sort of gag order on this case, where is some one calls for a reference the school must give one based on job done, not mistakes made.
Often there is this sort of gag when an employer loses a case such as this. In the John Walczak case out of Janesville , the district was not allowed to mention the discipline issue he was accused of, just give a reference on job done. In this day and age all one would have to do is a internet search.. and they will see for them selves.
I do not agree with what he did. He made a horrible choice watching that, and sharing that sort of thing in the work place. Just a stupid mistake. But from what I understand it was not kiddie porn. He did not share it with students, just grown adults.
I think its time for him to move on, but if he does not best of luck to him for what he is sure to face in the school district.
I can not see him not getting this honor. He deserves it.
This picture really does make me laugh. It is what teacher’s have tried to explain for some time. No I have not changed my mind, all schools have to be held accountable, just like the rest of our in our jobs.
Kids all learn differently.
That is why these standardized tests are so frustrating. They are expecting children with learning disability’ s to test like the rest.
What we are finding in the Madison schools as it’s time for finals, it’s not all paper and pencil finals. One of the classes is doing oral presentations , another class has a project due, another class let the students pick a history subject, inline with what they had studied so far this year and write a detailed report on the subject or person they choose. Hands on projects /oral exams can be much more telling of where a student is at.
We know at least a dozen people who shopped at Target during the time they were targeted by identity thieves.
They are now offering a year of free credit monitoring to those effected. We received a email from them regarding this just recently.
I shopped at Target this last weekend and I paid in cash, and I probably will for some time when shopping there.
The sad reality is this could have happened any where , any store.
While at the school one day, the Principal of the school came over the p.a. system. He was just reminding students of certain schools rules that were starting to be ignored. I had noticed the dress code seemed to be kind of loose.
As one teacher pointed out to me, “we worry more about academics then chasing students around over how they are dressed.”
The last thing the Principal mentioned in this announcement was ” Gentlemen pull up your pants.” .
I had to agree with that statement. I do not enjoy walking behind anyone ( male or female) with their hind end hanging out
. I do also appreciate that they realize academics should come before dress.
It’s funny the things Evansville administrators choose to pick at , and the things they ignore.
Lack of priorities by Evansville administration. Maybe they should go back to school they could learn a few things from administrators in school districts where academics is priority one.
I just do not see what kids see in their pants hanging to their knees.
This very talented lady lives right around the corner from us!
This is who I believe will be in the Super Bowl. I do think the game between the Sea Hawks and San Fran will be a tough one, but the stats favor the Sea Hawks.
I like Peyton Manning. He seems like a very nice person. He is very dedicated to his craft and one can not help but admire him. I think Indy screwed him, but as I have been told by many, its a business. I do think he will be retiring in the next year or two so it would be nice for him to get another ring.
But Russell Wilson he is just a very nice person, very talented and he has worked very hard.
My sister in law who is a former Bronco’s fan who we recruited to be a Packer fan, thinks I should be cheering for the Bronco’s. Because she has become a die-hard Packer fan, but the Bronco’s will always have a special place in her heart.
I think it’s so baloney how the sports analysts talk about the Packer- San Fran game like San Fran blew them out. It was a very close game and could have gone either way.
There are just a few weeks left of football..

Archives:: The love affair between W.E.A.C. and the Evansville Athletic Association. ***PARENTS FOR 4K pay attention to where the money goes..Posted in Uncategorized with tags Evansville school district, Jerry Roth, Wi on January 13, 2014 by chasinthenews
This post for what ever reason has received over 65 reads today, which when new would not be odd. But its older its a little strange. I strongly suggest parents who want 4k start questioning why so much is spent on athletics, when the academic needs are left to suffer, including no 4k.
This was originally posted March 28th, 2013.
It is absolutely amazing that administration would this last week came to the school board wanting to add another COACH. The administration wants to add an assistant girls softball coach.
They are asking to add another coach without making any kind of cuts at all to the co/extra curricular budget. But yet the district continues to lay off teachers its is looking like they will lay off a minimum of 10 teachers this year. 10 teachers. That is a lot considering the size of our district.
The board meeting this last week was heavily attended by teachers as it should have been. Every single teacher in this district should be irate. . That they are looking to add to the athletic programs , but cut academics AGAIN. Every single parent should be ticked.
Those involved like Brian Cashore, Scott Everson, Robert Flaherty and Jerry Roth seem scared to death someone is going to cut their sports programs. Yet NOT ONE single board member has even suggested that. The only thing the board has asked is they look at their budgets. The board has asked them repeatedly for certain information about co/extra curricular budgets and issues and the administration has failed to give it to them. HOW many people would still have a job if your boss told you to do some thing and you did not?
A couple of weeks ago they came to the board suggesting we could close the open enrollment numbers if we added a sport like HOCKEY, to draw kids to our district. That we could cover the costs of these programs by cutting a position. That of a teacher. THIS is the crap these clowns bring to the board.
NO one has ever suggested cuts. NO one. They just simply wanted information, better insight about what is going on.
WE have some administrators who thought they were jocks in high school and just can not let it go. They live for sports . They are protective of these programs like a MaMA Bear. Yet no one has threatened them.
BUT to have the BALLS to come to the school board and want to add another coach, while at the same meeting talk about how many teacher’s they are going to cut.
There just seems to be this love affair between W.E.A.C. and the Evansville Athletic Association. A deal of you scratch my back and I will scratch yours.
The Evansville School District most definitely needs its co/extra curricular activities.
For some kids it’s these sports/activities that bring them to school. It these sports/activities that make them strive to get that 1.5 g.p.a. when other wise they may not. They know where they have to be grade wise to play and take part. For some kids it gives them the connection to school and people, friends, teachers that they may not other wise have.
NO one is suggesting not having these things but good grief open you eyes and plant some priorities. Academics have to come first.
This have been a long on going love affair between W.E.A.C. and the Evansville Athletic Association. They really have gotten hot and heavy the last couple of years.
IT is embarrassing.
Parents send their kids to a school district for academics not sports.
