School Referendum was discussed at Monday night meeting. Let them talk.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on May 16, 2013 by chasinthenews

possible school referendum was discussed at the Monday night school board meeting.   At this point they are just talking.   Let them talk.

I think some one should point out to Jerry Roth the reason Heidi Carvin never pursued this was because she knew it was not going to pass.   He would be wise to be very careful how he approaches this subject.

When the R word was first mentioned several weeks ago  I gave the reasons for why I would vote yes .   But there are just as many reasons I would vote no.

Kathy Swanson at Monday nights board meeting pointed out residents are not going to likely vote for this referendum if they do not feel the district has done every thing they can to avoid a referendum.      The truth is .   They have not.     They do need to cut teachers do to declining enrollment.

IF they cut out the block schedule at the Junior High it will save money.     It is also better for students as they need to have math , science and reading daily.  Not every 2nd to 3rd day.

They do not get it daily with the block schedule.

So the district needs to prove it self.   That they has been responsible and done every thing it can.   At this point they have not.    Jerry Roth should probably not compare the fact that Albany and Brodhead both passed referendums because that is just going to make people look and see Brodhead and Albany also pay considerably lower taxes already.   They could afford a referendum far easier than Evansville.

HE would also be very wise to NOT drag 4k in as part of this referendum.  There has always been more opposition to 4k than for it in Evansville.  Trying to tie the two together in this referendum if there is one could kill it before it ever starts.

We are near the top of the list for amount paid in school taxes for the county.   Taxes will go up again this year because of the school and yes of the course that the city just keeps spending and has brought absolutely no industry into Evansville in years.

SO LET THEM talk.    That is all it.   BUT if they are going to send out surveys.   SEND them to all not choice hand-picked homes.

IF they decide to go ahead they will have an up hill battle..   So let them talk.

Discover Wisconsin: Being Bullied Into Not Reporting Bullying in the Evansville School District.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , on April 29, 2013 by chasinthenews

There was  a rather ugly situation this last week on one of the buses.   A high school girl was posting on Facebook, and telling friends that another high school student , a young man was picking on and bullying a junior high student.     The male high school student was calling this young man retard, and gay.  Making comments about how gay people are disgusting.

This was reported to Jerry Roth who dispatched duties of investigation to the Junior High principal and A principal at the Evansville High School ..  I feel very bad for this high school girl who told what she saw and heard.   AS the  so-called principal at the high school accused her of lying and told her he did not believe her.     This girl does not lie.    She had no reason for saying this about this high school boy other than he said these things to the junior high student and it bothered her.   She knew it was not right.

She was also told by this principal that she was not to talk about it again.    Really I was not surprised by the comments and laughable investigation by the high school principal because they have made this comment to many kids over the years.  Telling them they can not talk about it anymore.     So what are kids to do when the bullying continues?    Ignore it?

This behavior/bullying  by the principals at the high school has gone on for years.   My daughter was subject to it.   That is why the issue of bullying has never gotten better in the Evansville school district because they do not fix it, they just call people liars and threaten them if they dare to speak of it again.   They have gone as far as to threaten to call the police.

But yet when a witness comes forward telling of bullying/harassment they saw and they are told by administration/principals they are liars, and they are not to talk about it again its called  intimidation of a witness and it’s illegal.

I can think of a dozen kids who have had this problem at the high school.    This abusive behavior has gone on for years in the Evansville School District.

Recently a psychiatrist in Madison told me ” Evansville school district has so many problems on so many levels and bullying is just the tip of the issues.”    A sad way for the Evansville school district to be known.

Evansville administrators showed their true colors and concern.

Their concern was for them selves.   When they made sure they got their contracts all worked out and done before the teachers.   Shame on them.    It was all about them and what they wanted.

The Evansville school board should have said ” NO WAY”  you wait like the teachers and we will work all the contracts out at once.     But now the teachers get what if left over after administration took what it wanted.

Shame on them.  It’s not about what’s best for the district but what’s best for their pocket-book.

ALBANY AND PARK VIEW ARE LISTED IN THE BEST SCHOOLS IN WISCONSIN!!!!!!!!!   EVANSVILLE IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND.

IT GOES TO SHOW THAT IT DOES NOT TAKE MONEY TO HAVE A GOOD SCHOOL.  BECAUSE NEITHER OF THESE SCHOOLS ARE THAT BIG OR HAVE MONEY.

This is just embarrassing that Evansville is not on here.

It says a lot.

Some Milwaukee schools listed as the best in Wisconsin.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on April 24, 2013 by chasinthenews

For all the talk of how awful Milwaukee schools are.. A couple of them are in the top 10 for Wisconsin.   Funny thing I can not find Evansville in this list any where.

The amount of Evansville’s students who tested at proficient or advanced not so hot…no surprise.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 23, 2013 by chasinthenews

The state average of students who tested at proficient or advanced was 36.1 %.    Average scored only 40.4 % of Evansville’s students tested at proficient or advanced on the  W.K.C.E. testing, or what ever they call it now.     Evansville scored only 40.4%   at proficient or advanced.   These numbers come straight from the Wisconsin Department of public instruction.    Those numbers suck.    WE do not even have  half our students at proficient  or advanced.    Not even half.

That really is horrible and nothing to be proud of .     These teacher and administration should be embarrassed.  They are leaving a lot of kids behind.

Year after year of poor test scores.    Year after year of kids getting left behind.

Would you vote for a referendum?

At the school budget input meeting Thursday night there was a suggestion of a referendum brought up by a parent.   This is a parent who took the time to come to this meeting yet has not been following the antics of the administration.   If he had I doubt he seriously would have suggested such a thing.

When it was first brought up a while ago my first thought was ” no way.”    But given some time and after listening at several board meetings I would if the following happened.

1.  They continue with their plan to knock the block schedule out at the Junior High.   It would save them money,  the kids would get math and science daily which they have to have to compete.   This also needs to be done at the high school  .

2.  They lay off all the teacher’s they have planned to lay off     OR  they make cuts to benefits and pay because the teacher’s can not have it both ways and still have a functioning budget.  That is just a fact.

3.  Some of these lay offs were because of declining enrollment.   There should be no question a certain amount of teacher’s have to go.   We can not keep teacher’s and staff on just because we feel bad about laying them off.   This is the real world.

4.  This money from the referendum needs to be used to improve things, not to keep up what they already have.   IF they use the money to keep up what they already have the money and referendum just becomes a band-aid it does not really fix any thing.

5.  We do need a technology upgrade as well as new text books.

6.  The administrators all take pay cuts next year.    Is it not nice how they got their contracts done and got what they wanted but figure the teacher’s should only get what’s left over?

7. The residents of Evansville also need to remember that once the High School is paid off in 2020???  They are going to want to build a new Junior High.

8.  Implement Merit pay, its going to happen at some point so they need to start looking at how and when to do it.   That is one way to help raise test scores, when teacher’s start to take it seriously.   Right now they act as though they continue down the same , sad path they have been on and they just will not work.  The district will never meet the goals it has to with the attitude of some.    They also get more federal and state money when they have merit pay.

9.  You make cuts from co-curricular activities.  I am not saying cut any thing out , just find ways to trim the budget like maybe coaches taking less pay.

10>    When  Lou Havlik retires next year at LEVI LEONARD.  go to ONE principal for both T.R.I.S. and  Levi Leonard .  If the principal at T.R.I.S. can not handle both buildings replace her with someone who can.  Good grief  2 principals for 5 grades..  There is no reason for it , what a waste.   Despite claims by one of the current principals who claimed that a principal/administrator can not have more than a certain amount of students and staff under her charge the Wisconsin Department of Public instruction said there is no such law, regulation what ever she wanted to try to call it.

Ellie Haberl receives Kohls Educator of the year award.

Ellie Haberl is an English teacher at E.H.S. and if your child has never had her as a teacher they are truly missing out.  She is just out standing.     She is a teacher who if she ever said”I need 90,000 a year to stay here at Evansville and teach .”   I would be the first one to say ” Give it to her.”     I would also be advocating for the district to pay for her insurance and buy her a retirement home in Florida.    They should also pay for college for any children she has or may have.    She is just that out standing.     She truly loves what she is doing and it shows.   She gets kids who normally would not be engaged in learning to jump right in and be involved and engaged.

The above statement is saying a lot coming from me as those who follow the blog know.

But I just can not impress enough what out standing teacher she is.

Not all teacher’s are the same.  They are not all like Ellie Haberl.    I wish more of them were.

She is just out standing  , please give her a big congratulations if you see her at school or around town.

Congratulations Ellie!

Where are they going to get the money for some of these plans/ideas.  There last two referendums have failed and they are losing on average a 100 kids a year.

Nothing has improved enough in that district to make anyone think another referendum would pass.

When referendum passes it’s a sign tax payers are happy with how a school is being run.   It’s like a reward for doing what you should be doing.

If Evansville has any thoughts of a referendum for things they should have done and paid for years ago I can almost guarantee it will fail.

The schools are not run well.   We have a administration that enjoys making enemies of teacher and staff.  We have a school board that can not make hard decisions.   So they are floundering around.    IF one is not good at making hard decisions stay off the school board.

IF you are not good at listening when people try to warn you, stay off the school board.

I will say one of the biggest issues with the school board is they are all either friends, or related to some one who works in the school district.

I am really surprised by how many people are related in this town, they should really be careful of inbreeding, for some I fear it’s to late.

No one wants to lay off their friend/brother/sister/cousin are tell them they are not getting a raise or keeping their benefits.   But it needs to be done.

We also already pay outrageous taxes in part because of the school.  People are not happy.   The district has become a joke.

For my first two years of high school I went to Albany.   My junior and Senior year I went to a private christian school.

My sister went to a private school for a year and a half before graduating from Albany.

My sister went to Evansville for  a while.

Back in the day Evansville was considered a good school.  People. found ways to come to our district.  Now the flee.

I remember parents talking about Albany schools back then how they are now talking about Evansville.   Most agree on the fact Evansville just can not compete, it fails in the college prep area,  and testing.  It really does remind me of Albany.

Budget In put meeting tonight.

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 18, 2013 by chasinthenews

This easily could go down as the biggest waste of time.   Below is what I submitted on the school’s website under the budget input link before they removed the link.

I had several people question where that link went.   So I told them just to email board members.  Below is what I submitted before the link was removed.  The fact they removed the link goes to show they really do not want to hear from the public,  you know the people who pay very high taxes in part because of the school.

*******************************************************************************************************
I am writing with some thoughts on the school board budget.   I know that all of you would like to blame the majority of  these issues on Gov. Walker when it comes to the  mess you are in.

But the simple truth is you have done it to your selves.   The board and  administration has been warned for years about declining numbers and money and have failed to make any substanial

changes.

There is plenty of blame to go around    . The board is as much at fault as administration.  Because the board gives the last o.k. for the budget.,  for expenditures.

The teacher’s are also to blame.   They have been greedy and felt entitled for years and look at the toll it has taken on the district.

First you have failed to addressed the issue of all the students fleeing the district through open enrollment.  That is a lot of money.    Being you are in the financial trouble you are in  the joke really is on you  that you have not taken this issue seriously.

I have been told by staff members of certain classes at the high school that have less than 10 students in them.   Why are you paying a teacher to teach classes with low numbers.   That is a huge waste of money.

Take a good look at what you are paying coaches.   WHY did teacher’s come forward last year and took pay cuts  yet  you are still paying these coaches the same as they were?   Why have these coaches not come forward and offered to take pay cuts ,   or take very little pay?

Sorry to tell you but Evansville is not a sports power  house yet some in administration like to pretend we are.

You need to have better curriculum choices at the high school.  You  are so being out played by almost every district around you when it comes to better and more curriculum choices.

Why  would you allow administrators do work out there contracts before the budget issues were worked out?    Pretty convenient how they made sure they got what they wanted, and now they are out to screw the teachers.

My cousin subs within the E.S.D. and its embarrassing some of the things going on.

I  do think money has to be spent on technology and new text books.   It’s a shame the board and administration has allowed our district to get so far behind everyone else.    I know for a fact the Junior High is very text book anemic.

Well that is about it.

********************************************************************************************

In the end the school board and administration will do as they please  regardless of input.    They always have and that is why they are in the mess they are.  It all circles back to them.

They like to act like they know so much more than the taxpayers , but by the mess they are in it goes to show they are not.   It is just a act.
